Expected/recommended use of Discourse for team members

Following up on outreach meeting discussion, we want a clear list of settings and expectations for team members (and suggested for active non-team volunteers too).

Setting options:

  • “watching” means getting notifications (and emails, if enabled in your settings)
    • Also, you can set per-category to watch all posts or just the first from topics (and then could choose to watch all posts within any given topic).
  • “tracking” means just seeing activity noted with a count when visiting the forum.

Initial list of settings to check:

  • team members should be watching the #restricted:team category
  • team members should watch (at least first posts of topics) the #clear-the-path subcategories relevant to your role(s)
  • everyone should (and does by default) watch first post for #announcements:major
  • consider watching first post in the #welcome category (to welcome newcomers)
  • consider tracking #general-discussion (or just reviewing it along with browsing other things when you visit the forum)
  • consider watching first post or tracking #feedback-support (or sub-categories)

[we should probably pin wiki topics with this sort of thing in the team category for team members and similar one somewhere else for outside volunteers, maybe make part of the general welcome stuff]
